Why You Should Hire a Graphic Designer: Reason #10

Your Business is Worth It!: Can you imagine if companies like Chrysler, Ford, Apple, Nike, or Telus didn't hire graphic designers? What if they used Microsoft Publisher or Word to design their advertisements? I have a feeling that they wouldn't look quite as good. Isn't your business worth just as much? You might think that you are just a little business and can 'get by' designing your own advertisements - well they were all just little businesses once too...

Why You Should Hire a Graphic Designer: Reason #8

Industry Standard Software: Graphic designers have industry standard software to create designs in acceptable formats for various uses: web, print, specialty formats, etc. With software like Publisher or Word you'll find that you are very limited in both creative design as well as available formats, and many printers or other companies won't be able to open your files or use them for professional printing jobs.

Why You Should Hire a Graphic Designer: Reason #7

Communication: Good graphic designers are communicators. That is what design is for: to communicate a product or service in a way that is visually appealing, positive and effective.

Why You Should Hire a Graphic Designer: Reason #6

Can Help You Understand What You Want/Need: When you're starting your business there is a lot for you to make decisions about and it can get very confusing. A graphic designer can assist with the decisions that pertain to your marketing/advertising/branding and help you to organize your thoughts. Sitting down with a graphic designer in the beginning phases of your start-up can help you to get a strong handle on your vision for your business and the direction that your marketing and advertising should take.

Why You Should Hire a Graphic Designer: Reason #5

Saves You Money: You might think that designing your own marketing and advertising pieces will save you money, but you might be really spending more than you would if you paid a designer to do it for you.

When trying to determine if designing something for yourself is cheaper, you need to take into account the amount of time it's going to take you to actually design the piece. Then double that time, because what you think will only take you a half hour will end up taking at least an hour when you add all the time you take to research, look for and purchase stock images, and then manipulate it in a frustrating software program such as Word. When you're finished your design and you take it to the printer you can add another hour to your time. The printer is going to ask you all kinds of questions regarding the setup, CMYK or RGB, pantone colours (and might even mention vectors) and you're going to look at them like they have no head because you have no idea what they are talking about. Then when your proof is printed chances are something will be wrong and you have to go back to your office and fix it in the file and send it back to the printer again. And while you are researching, designing, and dealing with the printer you could have been promoting your business or making a sale to a client. So how much did you really save?

Why You Should Hire a Graphic Designer: Reason #4

Helps You Get Noticed in The Crowd: Every day we are all 'exposed' to a multitude of advertisements and marketing pieces. The bar on the creativity level of these items is continually being raised. You have 3 seconds or less to catch your target audience's attention in this multitude. Make sure to use every advantage you can in order to get noticed.

A graphic designer can help. A graphic designer can take your ordinary advertisement and make it something extra-ordinary. They can make it something that will stand out in the crowd and get noticed.

Why You Should Hire a Graphic Designer: Reason #3

Save Time: What would take a person with little or no design skills an hour to do, a professional designer could do in at least half the time. And don't you have better things to do with your time?

Why You Should Hire a Graphic Designer: Reason #2

To Make Your Business Look Professional
Graphic designers can do more than just create logos and change pictures. If you're in business you probably generate some sort tangible marketing pieces. These could be annual reports, newsletters, sales sheets, product spec pages, or just a flyer. These are all items that a graphic designer can make look professional. Even text heavy documents such as annual reports can look cheap and amateur when not done by a professional. It's the little things that can make a big difference like the font size, justification of the text, text wrapping, and text spacing. If you want your business to look professional, hire a graphic designer.

How to Avoid Sending the Wrong Message: Print Isn't Dead

How to Avoid Sending the Wrong Message: Print Isn't Dead

Print Isn't Dead

I recently read an advertisement in a magazine that was promoting print advertising. It stated that readership of magazines has been increasing, especially with 18 to 34 year olds. It also stated that nearly 22 percent of new subscriptions were ordered online.

This creates a great opportunity for business owners that are looking for a medium to advertise in. You can promote your business, your website, or your social marketing sites. Remember that magazines have a longer shelf life than a newspaper. You want your message to be relevant for at least a couple of months. Choose a magazine that matches your target audience and make sure you AVOID sending the wrong message - have a professional design your advertisement for the best impact!
